These books say that they are pre-novice, but they were perfect as an end of the year activity. Both the 7th and 8th grades had read a novice level book as part of the curriculum during the school year, but one 7th grade class was two units ahead of the the one so we tried these. The students found them easy to read and understand and did a number of additional activities for using Spanish using the stories as a foundation. The 8th grasde students had 7 class days left split between two weeks and the book was easy to understand and the students had fun with them because they were easy to read, understand, remember and talk about in Spanish. One 8th grade class, in particular, enjoyed how they could make inferences and use more of their vocabulary, not just what was in the book.
