By: Adriana Ramírez
This sweet and funny Level 1 book (also great for Level 2) includes 112 word families and 33 cognates, perfect for those who are beginning to read in Spanish. But what makes it truly special is its message: the fly is dyslexic.
I am dyslexic too, and I wrote this story so that dyslexic students can feel seen, understood, and proud of the way they learn, and so that all readers can discover that there are many different ways to understand the world.
¿Qué mosca te picó? is part of the Por si las moscas collection, a series of eight books created especially for students who are just starting their reading journey in Spanish. So far, six books in the collection have been published (four written by me and two by my friend Margarita Pérez García).
These books are ideal for Free Voluntary Reading (FVR) or as class novels in Levels 1 and 2. Additionally, collections with continuity—such as Por si las moscas—are especially valuable for neurodivergent students, because familiar characters and connected stories give them a sense of security and motivation to keep reading.
A simple, warm, and deeply human story about friendship, empathy, and diversity in learning.
And you, do you already have your flies in class?
The book includes a complete Spanish-English glossary.
