Abraham Lincoln: Hero or Villain? Mini-Poster

I love these "pros and cons" style posters!

I have issues with this presentation. The site speaks about history not being black and white yet this poster depicts just that - a black and white version of history. For example, it speaks about President Lincoln's position on slavery in the states, that he does not have the power to end it at the state level. He is speaking from a constitutional, legal perspective and he was correct. For him to wave his hand and abolish slavery would have been in direct violation of the law at the time for a country that is ruled by its law. This poster does not take into account his role as a president constrained by laws. Also, the actual authority and burden to end slavery was in the hands of the U.S. Congress. Suggesting he is a villain at a time when half of the states broke off to create their own country is wrong on several levels. The study of history demands the study of the grey matter; history is comprised mostly of grey matter. This depiction of A. Lincoln promotes a black and white view and completely ignores the grey. In turn, it educates a student on how to be narrow-minded and superficial in their assessment of historical figures. This, in turn, provides fertile ground for the cultivation of poorly informed, educated, and thoughtful future citizens.
