Accessible Spanish Reading for the Holidays

Description

While spending the year in Maine as an exchange-mouse, Miguelito is introduced to holidays celebrated in the United States. He learns about Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Valentine's Day, while sharing his own traditions about Christmas, Easter, and Independence Day. With each chapter, students learn holiday-specific vocabulary, as well as cultural and historical information. Also included in the book are reading activities, a complete vocabulary list, and easy-to-make Venezuelan recipes that your students can make at home or with the class. My Level 1 Spanish students and I really enjoy the Miguelito series. Fiestas Americanas did not disappoint. The chapters are interesting and the follow-up questions are excellent. The vocabulario glossary is especially helpful and thorough. I wish there was an activity packet for every Miguelito book!

A must-read for fans of Miguelito!!

Fiestas americanas is the perfect book to pair with Las aventuras de Miguelito (although it could be read as a standalone). Both books contain the same lovable characters, but this one takes on more of a non-fiction stance, in the sense that it teaches about the holidays in the US (and how the traditions in the US differ from those in Venezuela). Readers will enjoy spending more time reading about these friends and their adventures throughout six holidays, during Miguelito's time in Maine as an exchange student. It also includes questions and activities after each chapter, as well as a yummy Venezuelan recipe for each of the 6 holidays! I highly recommend this engaging book; it's filled with cultural information, and it's an enjoyable read for beginners on up!
**The stories take place during the following holidays: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, and the 4th of July.**
